Ten Golden Myths: Ten Outrageous Myths Peddled About the Gold Mine in Rosia Montana, Romania
Gold Backlash
Responses to the documentary Gold Futures by the Hungarian film-maker Tibor Kocsis, aired in the USA on PBS on Tuesday August 21st: Make Up Your Own Mine also PBS To Broadcast Anti-Progress Propaganda and Putting the BS on PBS (see links at end of article) continue to ask difficult questions both to director Kocsis and to billionaire George Soros. As I have shown on this site Kocsis plays fast and loose with the truth in his shoddy partisan attempt to stop a mine from opening that the vast majority of local people want.
The interest of Soros in this project is worthy of closer investigation. Soros, is the chairman of the Open Society Institute who are large funders of groups opposing the gold mine in Rosia Montana, he recently helped them set up a so called InfoCentre in Rosia, he has personally written to investors in the gold mine urging them no to invest in the project citing "the social costs involved in involuntarily resettling hundreds of people" and "the potential for disastrous environmental impact”, oh and by the way is heavily involved in gold mining. Soros recently invested in Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc, a mining company. Soros also owns a large stake in Canadian gold mining company Goldcorp. Goldenmyths will return to look at what’s behind Soro’s interest in halting a mine local people want in later postings.
But perhaps the most interesting response to Gold Futures is that by Rosia Montana villager and blogger Gheorge Lucian. Lucian, as seen on his YouTube video, has collected samples of the terribly polluted river water that flows through Rosia Montana from the now-closed former state-owned gold mine. He intends to send a sample to PBS. Rosia Montana is an environmental black hole. If the mine goes ahead the environment will be cleaned up. The new mine is the best way to clean up an old mess.
Opponents of the mine should look in the mirror and decide whether they want to improve the environment and the lives of the local people or whether they are just Luddites opposed in principle to big business and mining, the unwitting pawns of a shadowy (schizophrenic?) billionaire.
